Non-Herbal Ant Solutions

Almost every home as had an ant problem at some time or the other.

Almost every home as had an ant problem at some time or the other. Most ants are not hazardous to your health, but they can be very annoying. There are also some types of ants that do bite, which leads to itching. While many people would prefer to use household herbal remedies to remove ants from their homes, the problem is that sometimes these solutions are just not very effective. When you have tried herbal remedies and are still not getting results there are several other methods which have proven effective at eliminating ants.

Boric Acid Boric acid, found in Borax, will be very effective in almost all circumstances. It prevents ants because it includes borates which have both fungicidal and insecticidal properties which are very lethal for ants. To really successfully eradicate ants from your home you should sprinkle the solution around all the avenues ants are using to enter the home as well as around the ant colony itself.

Ant Traps and Bait Ant traps will stop the problem at its cause, but will take a little bit of time. These traps include bait which attracts the ant into the trap. The ants will then take the bait, a poison, back to the colony where it can kill the queen. Without the queen the colony will not survive.

Additional Remedies Another effective way to kill ants is by pouring boiling water right into their colony. Baby powder and yeast have also been successfully used to treat ants. You can prevent the ants from entering your home by placing petroleum jelly over all the entry ways that they use. For these remedies to be effective you will need to combine several methods and use them for at least five days. The only really effective way to deal with a severe infestation is with the use of pesticides.

When the infestation is severe you will usually have more success with non herbal remedies. You might also have success with a combination of herbal remedies and improved hygiene and food storage around the home.
