A Closer Look at Ants

You can find the nests of these highly social insects both indoors and outdoors. There is always at least one queen ant in each ant colony that is tended to by the worker ants. The worker ants and non-reproductive female ants watch over the brood as well, bringing in ample supplies of food for the entire colony. Ants come into our homes from their indoor or outdoor nests in search of this food.

You can often follow the trail of the worker ants to find the location of the nest. Common places to find pharaoh ant nests include heating ducts, appliances, linens, light fixtures, and switches. You can not fix your ant problem by simply killing the worker ants you find foraging. You need to treat the problem at the source, the nest. You know you have a colony of ants within your home if you find winged ants. These are the ants that are reproducing.
