The control measure that you use will be in large part determined by where the colony is located. Finding the nest is the first part of any treatment option for carpenter ants within your home. Areas with moisture caused by inadequate weatherproofing or plumbing leaks are the most likely place to find a carpenter ant nest. Good places to begin looking are the voids behind poorly flashed chimneys and dishwashers. Listen for the hollow sound of damaged while you tap along baseboards and other wood surfaces. Sometimes you will hear a rustling sound similar to crumpling cellophane if a nest is nearby. The simplest way to remove the nest is by pouring water over it.
