Ant Control and Ant Removal Tips

In just about any type of building you can find ants as a real nuisance. This is true for both residential and commercial structures. Any food stuff that is left out, including other dead insects is considered good food to ants. Besides the regular honey, baked goods, and butter that are often left out, ants have also been known to devour rayon, rubber, and silk. Ants have been found just about anyplace that you can imagine, including flower vases, soft drinks, sealed packs of sterile bandages, surgical wounds, IV glucose solution, and water pitchers. Studies have shown that ants can contaminate sterile materials and spread diseases. Scientists often feel that Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas infections that occur in hospitals are a direct result of ants.

Ways to Control Ants
Ants have an uncanny ability to disperse, making them much harder to control than many other insects. A hospital, for instance, could easily have hundreds of different colonies. Any colony that is missed during inspection or elimination will quickly grow. They have found that approximately 90 percent of ants remain hidden in the nest or colony, so it will not work simply to destroy the ants you see. Some pesticide applications do nothing more than spread the ant infestation to new areas, causing more colonies within the structure. Ants are known to avoid certain pesticides, making them harder to eliminate. There are ants in almost every structure in the country, even if you can not see them.
